Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz wins gold in SEA Games 2019

Filipina weightlifter and 2016 Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz added another feather in her cap as she clinched the gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games 55kg category on Monday.

It was Diaz’ first SEA Games gold medal though she had already won a medal in the Olympics and the current Asian Games champion.

She lifted 91 kilograms in the snatch and 120 in the clean and jerk for a total of 211. Diaz surpassed her own record in the Asian Games of 2017.

Diaz ended the country’s two-decade medal drought in the Olympics when she won silver in Brazil in 2016.

She also emerged victorious in the 2018 Asian Games after bagging gold in Indonesia.

Diaz also bagged three silver medals at the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships in China.
