Roger Federer wowed thousands of spectators at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City as he played for an exhibition match against Alexander Zverev.
The 38 year-old tennis star played in front of 42,517 spectators packed into the Mexican arena, coming out on top with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, on Saturday evening last weekend, ESPN reported.
According to the sports channel, the previous record of 35,681 was set in 2010 when Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams met in an exhibition match in Brussels, Belgium.
“You are an incredible audience, your support has given me goosebumps, I do not have enough words to thank you,” Federer said.
The International Tennis Federation has yet to ratify the audience of the exhibition match so the spectators count remains unofficial.
Federer reportedly earned $10 million from his Latin American tour. The baskebatll star also encountered challenges during his scheduled matches in Chile and Colombia.
