Thai football team cancels Manila practice due to heavy traffic, delay in IDs ahead of SEA Games

Despite assuring the public and other countries that the Philippines is ready to host the 30th Southeast Asia Games, complaints are hounding the sporting event as athletes from different countries started to arrive this week.

The Thailand national football team shared on social media that they had to cancel their first day of training because of delays in getting their athlete’s IDs and heavy traffic from the airport to their hotel.

The team also pointed out that their hotel is two hours away from their practice field.

The Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) on Sunday, according to CNN Philippines, confirmed that the teams from Myanmar, Timor-Leste and Cambodia met problems as regards their transportation and accommodation.

“We sincerely apologize to our athlete guests from Timor-Leste, Myanmar and Cambodia for the inconvenience caused to them by the confusion regarding their transportation and hotel arrangements,” said Ramon Suzara, PHISGOC Chief Operating Officer, was quoted as saying in the report.

Issues about volunteers without food and transportation services also surfaced on social media.

This, amid questions on the extravagant budget spent on the Php50 million SEA Games cauldron.
