PH Azkals loses to Syria in Dubai

The Philippine Azkals lost at the second round of 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers to Syria, 1-0, held at the Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates last night.

Syria retains the top spot at the Group A keeping a 5-0-0 record and 15 points while the Philippines drops to 2-1-2 and 7 points, according to a Rappler report.

Syria’s Osama Omari fired a cross that found Ward Alslamh opened the scoreline after he struck a close-range shot straight to the roof of the net.

The Azkals however managed to keep the score at bay but they could not penetrate Syria’s defense.

The pressure for the Azkals came in at the 40th minute, said the Rappler report, adding that Neil Etheridge however was able to keep two saves against the forwards of the Syrian team.

The Azkals showed a better performance compared to their last match with Syria in Bacolod last September where they suffered a 5-2 defeat.
