UST Coach Aldin Ayo says his staff’s lack of preparation led to UAAP Finals Game 1 defeat

University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers coach Aldin Ayo said their defeat by Ateneo De Manila University at game 1 of the UAAP men’s basketball Finals was due to the lack of preparation of his coaching staff.

The UST Growling Tigers lost the game last Saturday at 91-77.

“We played bad, really bad. We were not executing… but I think, the problem was the coaching staff,” Ayo said in a press conference.

“Tingin ko we were not able to prepare them well. There were situations na hindi namin nadaanan sa practice,” Ayo added.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles managed to break the Tigers defense and the go-to scorer, Rhenz Abando, managed to only get three points.

Renzo Subido who was expected to shoot points for the Tigers managed to only get 8 points.

Ayo however is not pointing fingers at his players.

“Yung mga players, they did everything that they could. Hindi lang talaga lumabas yung laro. Sa ganitong situation, coaching yung may pananagot diyan,” he said.

The Tigers recently won their do-or-die game against the University of the Philippines and are set to have a three knockout games.

“I told the players we just have to handle this loss the right way. That means going back to our videos and titignan namin kung ano yung mali,” the coach said.

The Game 2 of the UAAP men’s basketball finals is set on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
