Lucio “Bong” Tan, Jr. — a big loss in PH sports

Philippine sports have lost a key figure in the passing of Lucio “Bong” Tan Jr.

Bong, who was also known as a sportsman and also owned the Tanduay franchise in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) and Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Apart from that, he was also the chief backer of the Batangas team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

Tan is also known as the coach of the University of the East (UE), which his family owns.

UE, in a Facebook post, expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

He left this world doing the thing he loved the most – playing basketball, said a report by the Philippine Star.

The 53-year-old businessman reportedly collapsed during a basketball game in Mandaluyong City on Saturday.

On Monday, his death due to brain herniation was announced by his family.

Tan was also a former national swimmer and an avid golfer.
