Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins wins two gold medals, breaks record as the oldest to compete in the American track

Remember the 103-year-old grandma who joined a track and field event earlier this year?

Julia Hawkins is living up to her nickname as the “Hurricane” after she successfully clinched two gold medals for the 2019 Senior Games held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She won both medals at the 50-meter dash and the 100-meter dash in the women’s 100-plus division, according to a report by ABC News.

In a separate report by CBS Evening News, Hawkins is said to be “the oldest woman” to compete in the American track, according to the National Senior Games Association.

Breaking new records is nothing new to Hawkins, who also raked multiple national titles in competitive cycling.

What’s her secret for longevity?

She told ABC News that she just needs to keep moving.
