Filipino ref named to FIBA World Cup in China

A FILIPINO referee will make his second appearance in the FIBA World Cup.

Ferdinand Pascual was tapped to be one of the 56 referees for the 18thFIBA World Cup slated August 31 to September 15 in China.

The 49-year-old Pascual is one of the only nine Asian referees who have been included in the pool.

Pascual’s first stint as a World Cup referee was in 2014 when the biggest basketball tournament was hosted by Spain.

Gilas Pilipinas is one of the teams from 32 countries that will be seeing action in this year’s World Cup.

Pascual, who is the PBA’s supervisor of officials, was also part of the officials who supervised the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

It was FIBA secretary-general Andreas Zagklis who assigned Pascual to this year’s World Cup.
