Khan on claims of Saudi bout with Pacquiao: I looked silly

British boxer Amir Khan said he was embarrassed when his announcement about a bout with Manny Pacquiao in Saudi Arabia late this year was squashed by the latter’s camp, UK sports newspaper The Sun reported.

Speaking at The Great Financial Trading Conference last Tuesday, Khan said that someone from his team told him the deal for a fight in Saudi Arabia was already signed and it was safe to announce it.

“Manny has since denied it so I am flying to Dubai to see my business partners next week to see what’s been going on, because I feel I have been made to look a bit silly,” Khan told The Sun.

Khan on July 16 announced that both parties have signed a contract for a bout in Riyadh on November 8. Pacquiao’s publicist Fred Sternberg, however, said that the Filipino boxer has not signed any contract and that any fight with Khan has not been discussed.

“I should have kept quiet and not trusted anyone because it makes me look stupid and I don’t want people to think I am a joke,” Khan added in a report by The Sun.

Pacquiao and Khan came close to a fight in 2017 in United Arab Emirates, but never materialized as negotiations fell through.

The Pound-for-Pound King, who recently won against Keith Thurman via a split decision, has a record of 62 wins, seven defeats, and two draws throughout his career. Khan, meanwhile, has 34 wins and five defeats.
