The Russian boxing federation announced the death of a Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev after sustaining head injuries during a boxing fight in Maryland.

In a statement released by the federation, it confirmed the untimely death of the 28-year-old boxer.

“Maxim Dadashev has died in the United States following injuries sustained during his fight with Subriel Matias,” the federation said in a statement.

Dadashev underwent an emergency brain surgery in Washington after his super-lightweight bout with Puerto Rican Matias on Friday.

The fight was put into a halt the 11th round by his cornerman James “Buddy” McGirt.

The operation aimed to relieve pressure from the swelling on Dadashev’s brain, but boxer did not make it after the operation.

According to McGirt, he had a hard time convincing the fighter to stop the fight. Dadashev was also shaking his head but on the 11th round, McGirt cannot hold it anymore.

Dadashev, known as “Mad Max” has a 13-0 record into the 140-pound non-title fight.

According to Russian boxing chief Umar Kremlev, Dadashev’s body would be repatriated home and that his family would receive financial aid.
