Carl Jammes Martin, the pride of Lagawe in the Ifugao province, logged a knockout victory against Thai opponent, Yutthichai Wannawong to keep his record unblemished in the main event of Sanman-ESPN5 event in Novaliches, Quezon City.
The 20-year old boxer enjoyed home court advantage as he disposed the visiting fighter in just the opening round to improve his impressive record to 13 wins, 12 of which via knockout, with no loss.
Martin’s speed and brutal combinations worked for him as he caught the taller Thai with an overhand right to the head after working on with body punches,” said an account of the match by Manila Times’ Jean Russel V. David.
Wannanong was able to regain footing but Martin’s blitzkrieg was just too much for him and that prompted referee Danrex Tapdasan to call for a knockout victory upon full count.
“I am very happy with my win because it pays to all the hard work that I put in in the past months,” the Manila Times quoted the bantamweight sensation as saying.
“I am not there yet but we will get there eventually. My focus is to develop my skills and strengthen my weak points,” added the southpaw fighter who is currently at No. 11 in the World Boxing Association bantamweight ranking. (Facebook photo)
