LeBron James, who pulled himself and his mother out of poverty playing basketball, gave students at his “I Promise School” one more good reason to be ecstatic: a new gym.
James, who was drafted first overall in 2003 out of high school, has announced building a new gym through a $1-million grant from the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation.
“I wish I was in the third or fourth grade again,” media quoted James as saying.
The four-time NBA MVP is known for his rags-to-riches story and news about him giving back to the community made sports headlines.
Arguably the most influential basketball player alive and one of the highest paid athletes in the world, James backed the opening of the I Promise School through his LeBron James Family Foundation, according to media reports.
The school – situated in James’ hometown of Akron, Ohio – was established in 2018 and started teaching Grades 3 and 4.
