SWAP opens 1st Season Women’s Basketball League

The Sports Women’s Alliance Pioneer (SWAP) recently opened the 1st season of their Women’s Basketball League at the International Community School – Branch 1 at Najda in Abu Dhabi last May 3.

In attendance were more than 125 players and guests led by their SWAP President Maya Velarde.

Four teams participated in the Beginners Category including AUH Timers, Ballers Drive, Abu Dhabi Snipers and Abu Dhabi Slammers while two teams duked it out for the Veterans category: Abu Dhabi Raiders and Titans.

“We advocate the value of respect, equality, sportsmanship, camaraderie, and most especially health and fitness. We envision an organization were every individual can participate and enjoy opportunities to a fair competition and impart social responsibilities,” said Velarde.

The season is expected to stretch until the first week of June.
