Pinoy boxer undergoes brain surgery after 15 solid blows to the head

It took 15 solid punches delivered to the head that sent Filipino boxer Renerio Arizala Jr. collapsing to the canvass during his fight against Japanese opponent Tsuyoshi Tameda in Japan.

Arizala already underwent brain surgery after the match, his coach Jonathan Peñalosa said in an interview with State of the Nation with Jessica Soho.

The Pinoy fighter complained of headaches due to the accumulation of solid punches to his head.

Arizala is currently under care at the Japanese hospital and now able to talk, but needs to undergo therapy.

The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) have already assured that the utmost care was afforded to the boxer, adding that all professional boxers are required to be provided with medical insurance.

Jovencia Gemino, the boxer’s mother, said that she would ask her youngest to finally stop risking his life in the ring.
