PH swim team bags 5 gold at Thailand meet

PHUKET, THAILAND: The Philippine Swimming League has so far bagged five gold medals at the 2019 Thanyapura International Swimming Championship with Masville Elementary School-Parañaque standout and male swimmer of the year, Marc Bryan Dula chipping in two in the boys’ 11-12 category at Thanyapura Swimming Pool.

Dula clocked 32.54 seconds to rule the 50m backstroke, beating American bets Lauchlan Parrot of BISP Flying Fish and Cameron Smith of Aqua Panthers, who registered 36.04 and 38.29, respectively, said a report of the event from The Manila Times.

“I am more prepared this year compared last year. My goal is to win as many gold medals as I can to help the team and to win the Most Outstanding Swimmer award in my age-group because I want to give it as a birthday gift to my Tita Sonia (Baltazar) who’s always there to support me,” the Times quoted Dula as saying.

Dula also ruled the the 100m butterfly in one minute and 9.57 seconds.

He outclassed second placer Chinese Chong Caden of Shanghai American School (1:17.62) and third placer American Michael McLean of Aqua Panthers (1:20.68).

Dula is eyeing to win more gold medals in the 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley events, said the Times report.
