DUBAI: In what has been a cliffhanger of a game, New Filipino Private School defeated Far Eastern Private School, 61-58 in the action-packed 3rd edition of the Congen’s Cup held at the People of Determination Sports Complex near the metro’s Stadium station late yesterday afternoon.
Philippine Education Secretary Leonor Briones, who is in Dubai on official business, stopped by at the event accompanied by Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes to watch the game and deliver her message to the Filipino youth.
In her speech during half time break, she said it is time to explore the possibility of having Filipinos in the UAE join the Palarong Pambansa, a major sports event back home.
Meantime, NFPS dominated the game from the first frame to the fourth, closing the first quarter at 18-6, the second at 37-26, and third at 41-26.
FEPS rallied in the fourth quarter to come from behind, reducing their deficit to eight points in the last two minutes, 56-48.
This was however thwarted by NFPS who called foul shots to maintain their lead and end the game 61-58.
