A Filipina working as a nurse for the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) won first place at the recently concluded Sheikha Hind’s Sports Tournament for Ladies’ in the badminton category.

The winner, Jeanielle Cabulong, is a Filipina nurse who moved to Dubai four months ago.

“I turned to badminton as a way to cope with my homesickness. I did not expect to win because I competed against a four-time championship winner. I also sprained my ankle while playing, but I was able to persevere and win,” Cabulong told Gulf News.

His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum crowned the winners—Cabulong included—of the sixth edition of the Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament.

“Proud of Jeanielie Lim Cabulong for winning the 1st place in Badminton category,” said DHA in a post on Instagram.
