PH Asian Games gold medalists receive Php2 million add’l incentive

Filipino gold medalists in the recently concluded Asian Games in Indonesia received an additional Php2 million incentive on Sunday, September 23, increasing their total monetary reward received to Php10 million.

The additional incentive came from the combined contributions of the MVP Group, San Miguel Corporation, and the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The reward was given during a basketball game between San Miguel and Barangay Ginebra.

Present to receive their reward were gold medalists weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and golfer Yuka Saso.

Aside from the gold medalists, all silver and bronze medalists also received Php500,000 and Php300,000 respectively.

“We got four golds, which was something we were very happy with. Also, we finished 19th. Our goal is to be in 15th place. We’ll get there. Or even better,” Philippine Olympics Committee (POC) President Ricky Vargas said.

Earlier, Filipino gold medalists in the Asian Games received the following prizes and incentives from the government and private individuals.

– Php2 million from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC);
– Php2 million from the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC);
– Php2 million from the Office of the President;
– Php1 million from Siklab Foundation of Sec. Dennis Uy;
– Php1 million from the Philippine Embassy in Indonesia

Silver medalists also received an additional Php500,000 from President Rodrigo Duterte.
