The Philippines is adding another athlete to its hall of champions after Rhon Palmera bagged two medals from the World Nomad Games.

Palmera first made waves after being the lone representative to the Thirld World Nomad Games held in Kyrgyzstan from September 2 to 8.

The World Nomad Games is the multi-sport event dedicated to nomad culture and ethnic sports practiced in Central Asia.

Palmera scored a silver medal from the Toguz Korgool event, a variation of mancala, popularly known as sungka in the Philippines.

He also netted a bronze medal in the Yakutian Intellectual Table Games.

The lone representative called on Filipinos to patronize ethnic games as well. He also hopes to improve the game’s popularity since the potential of Filipinos to excel in the mancala game is big.

“Ang ibang lahi tinatangkilik at binibigyang halaga at respeto ang sariling atin. Mga kababayan, wag po nating hayaang ito’y ma-balewala, ito po ay malaking karangalan sa ating bansa at lahi,” he wrote in a post.
