Oldest athlete in Asian Games is a Filipino

Filipino-Chinese Kong Te Yang is the oldest athlete in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.

At 85, he can still level with other competitors in the Contact bridge game,  a trick-taking game which uses a 52-card deck.

In an interview with Rappler, Yang said that he has been playing the game for more than 50 years now.

A member of the national team since 1967, Yang hopes to promote the sport in the Philippines. He cited cases in Hong Kong where different generations as young as 12 are playing the game.

Yang said that when he joined the Philippine Tournament Bridge Association, the national sports association (NSA) of the card game, he was the youngest member.

Although the game focuses on the mental aspect of the athletes, Yang needs a sharp mind in order to play the game. He said that like life, the game is full of uncertainties and full of lessons.
