How much is Hidilyn Diaz’ cash prize at Asian Games?

Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz will be returning to the Philippines with more than just a gold medal and country pride for her victory at the Asian Games. She also comes with an astounding monetary prize.

According to a report by ABS-CBN News, Diaz will be receiving a total cash prize worth P6 million after winning gold in the women’s 53 kilogram (kg) in weightlifting in the 2018 Asian Games last Tuesday, August 21, at the Jakarta International Expo.

The report stated that out of the P6 million cash prize, P2 million will be coming from the Philippine Olympic Committee, P2 million from the government through Republic Act 10699, and P1 million each from the Siklab Foundation and the Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Lee Hoong.

Diaz is now reaping the fruits of her hard work after years of working several odd jobs just to get by. Prior to becoming an Olympic medalist, Diaz previously said in a GMA-7’s weekly lifestyle show that she used to wash jeepneys and cars, and sell fish for a living.

Now, Diaz brought pride to the Philippines after winning the country’s first gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games currently held in Indonesia.

The 27-year-old weightlifter from Zamboanga City won the gold after lifting 92 kilograms in the snatch and 115 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total of 207 kilograms.

Diaz beat out Kristina Shermetova from Turkmenistan who came in second after lifting a total weight of 201 kilograms, and Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao who placed third with a total lift of 201 kilograms.
