Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola hoisted the World Cup trophy after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Croatia, 4-2 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Finals in Russia.

But did you know that Areola has Filipino roots? The goalkeeper has Filipino parents but he was born and raised in Paris.

The 25-year old received his first senior call up in 2015 and has always had his eyes on being goalkeeper.

The Men’s Football team’s victory is monumental since France was last named champion in 1998.

Alphonse proves that with solid coaching and training, Filipinos can be a world class athlete.
