Filipinos set Asian records in Rubik’s Cube solving

While most people can’t solve the Rubik’s Cube, a man from Davao City has successfully registered a continental record of being the fastest Asian to solve the puzzle with feet.

Edgar Elevado Jr. has recorded a score of 30.23 seconds in solving the Rubik’s Cube using his feet at the Philippine Championship 2017, a World Cube Association (WCA) sanctioned competition, at SM City Marikina on September 15 to 17.

He broke the record of Xiaojie Jiang from China who solved the puzzle with his feet for 31.78 seconds.

His achievement is currently ranked third in the whole world.

Meanwhile, former world record holder Mharr Justhinne Ampong solved the Rubik’s Cube in the Skewb Category in just 1.63 seconds, tying with the current continental record

He previously set the Skewb single solve world record back in 2014.

 

Jay Benedict Alfaras of Bacolod City was hailed as the grand champion for this year’s tournament after clocking an average of 9.28 seconds on the finals of the Rubik’s Cube Main event.


The Philippine Championship 2017 is the biggest speedcubing competition in the Philippines, welcoming 231 participants from the Philippines, China, and Singapore.


Philippine Championship 2017 is the biggest-ever speedcubing competition in the country participated by 231 cubing enthusiasts from different islands and provinces in the Philippines, with some participants coming from China and Singapore.

The event was organized by the Philippine Cubers Association.
