Olympian Hidilyn Diaz nabs silver in int’l sports tourney

Hidilyn Diaz scored a silver medal for women’s weightlifting tournament in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The 26-year-old FIlipino Olympian recorded 90 kilos in the snatch and 115 kilos in the clean and jerk, bring a total of 204 kilos, ABS-CBN reported.

Liao Qiuyun from China nabbed the gold medal while Kristina Shermetova of Turkmenistan was awarded with bronze medal.

This is the first competition of Diaz since 2016 Rio Olympics, wherein she was awarded with silver medal.

Currently, the Philippines is ranked 11 in the tournament with two gold medals, five silver medals, and three bronze medals.

Host country Turkmenistan is leading the medal tally with 43 gold medals, 28 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals, for a total 91 medals.

The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be held until September 27.
