Pinoy tennis player continues winning streak in China

Filipino tennis player Francis Casey Alcantara sustained his winning form on Wednesday to advance to the next round of the singles and doubles categories in the ongoing USD25,000 China F13 Futures tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.

Alcantara, who hails from Cagayan de Oro City, marched into the singles quarterfinal round after his Chinese opponent, Zhaoyi Cao retired in the third set with Alcantara leading at 3-0.

Cao won the first set at 6-2 while Alcantara took the second at 7-6 (5).

Alcantara fired seven aces against Cao’s three during their two-hour match at the Ningxia Stadium in Yinchuan province.

Alcantara’s next match will be against Chinese Zhizhen Zhang, who eliminated Alcantara’s doubles partner, Indian Karunuday Singh, 7-5, 6-4.

For the doubles event, the Alcantara-Singh pair defeated Taiwanese duo Yu Hsiang Chiu and Kuan-Yi Lee, 6-3, 6-3, to reach the semifinal round.

Alcantara and Singh will be up against top seeds Jui-Chen Hung of Chinese-Taipei and Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul of Thailand, who rallied past Chinese tandem Yuging Ning and Rukai Wang, 4-6, 6-3 (10-7).
