WBA names Pagara brothers’ opponents at Pinoy Pride 39

MANILA: ALA Boxing standouts Jason “El Niño” Pagara and “Prince” Albert Pagara get ready to face their opponents at Pinoy Pride 39 this November as the names of their rivals have been announced.

Jason Pagara (39-2-0, 24 KO) will be eyeing his thirteenth straight win as he takes on former WBA World lightweight champion, Nicaragua’s Jose “Quibera Jicara” Alfaro in the co-main event, reported ABS-CBN News.

Jason is coming off an impressive third-round knockout win over Mexican Abraham Alvarez back in July. The 24-year old Maasin, Southern Leyte native is looking to take the next step in his career, a shot at a world title.

Alfaro (28-10-1, 24 KO) is reportedly looking to score his first win since July of 2015. Alfaro’s first and only run as world champion came in 2007 after winning the vacant WBA strap via split decision over Thailand’s Prawet Singwancha.

The two are set to square off in a ten-round, 147-pound bout, said the news portal.

Looking to bounce back after absorbing his first career loss back in July, Albert Pagara makes his return against Ghana’s Raymond Commey.

Going unbeaten in his first 26 professional contests, Albert (26-1-0, 18 KO) was on his way to becoming ALA Boxing’s next big star. And while his loss to title contender Cesar Juarez has temporarily slowed his rise, expect the 22-year old to come back stronger.

The winner of 14 of his last 15 bouts, the 29-year old Commey (16-3-0, 9 KO) is the reigning WBA Pan African super bantamweight champion, and once challenged for the WBA International super bantamweight title earlier this year. Fighting outside of Ghana for only the second time in his career, he’s in for a tough out against a redemption-seeking Albert Pagara, reported ABS-CBN News.

Also expected to see action in this stacked card are ALA Boxing prospects Jeo “Santino” Santisima (11-2-0, 10 KO), Kevin Jake “KJ” Cataraja (4-0-0, 3 KO), and Jimmy “Popeye” Paypa (18-3-0, 6 KO).
