SINGAPORE: The Philippine fencing team has brought home three gold, two silver and five bronze medals in the 2016 Southeast Asian (SEA) Fencing Federation Championships held in Singapore.

Louie Brennan Wayne led the gold medalists by topping the men’s foil category. He bested Singaporeans Zhenggang Zhang and Yu Xiang Akira Goh of Singapore, who claimed the silver and bronze, respectively, reported Manila Times.

Harlene Orendain, Gabrielle Estimada and Hanniel Abella pulled an upset victory over powerhouse Vietnam, 45-42, to claim the top honors in the epee women’s team competition, the report said.

The Philippine women’s team also won a silver medal in saber while Noelito Jose bagged another silver in men’s individual epee.

The bronze winners were Perez in men’s individual foil, Orendain in women’s individual epee, the women’s foil team, the men’s epee team and the men’s saber team, said the news portal.

The Philippines finished third overall behind Vietnam and Singapore, the report said, adding that the team was under coaches Ramil Endriano, Oniong Vizcayno, and Ricardo Fuenzalida.
