Pinoy jins win seven medals in 2016 Korea Open

Geongju City, Korea: Pinoy jins have won one gold, four silver and two bronze medals in the recent 2016 Korea Open championships in Korea.

Middleweight Alvaro Joaquin Aranton led the Filipinos’ impressive performance in the 53-country competition by bagging the gold medal in the junior men’s free sparring event, reported Malaya.

Heavyweight John Shadrack Tan reportedly bagged a silver in the junior men’s free sparring event while bantamweight Veronica Garces, Jessica Canabal and welterweight Florence Mae Chavez also bagged silver medals in junior women play.

Bantamweight Raymundo Alombro III won a bronze in junior men while the women’s team of Elizabella Cesista, Angelica Joyce Gaw and Clare Therese Gascon also bagged a bronze in poomsae.

“It was a well-deserved finish for our taekwondo bets in the strong field of 2,480 participants,” Philippine Taekwondo Association officer in charge Sung Chon Hong reportedly said of the team carrying the colors of Smart/MVP Sports Foundation.

The team’s participation in the event was supported by PLDT, Meralco, Philippine Sports Commission the Philippine Olympic Committee, reported the news portal.
