Filipino golfers likely to make it to Rio Olympics

MANILA: Two young Filipino golfers are most certain to be qualified to compete in the Rio Olympics but it’s not clear if they will take the chance amid concerns over Brazil’s Zika virus.

Miguel Tabuena, 21, the country’s top golfer who is ranked 36th in the International Golf Federation list, is almost certain to make it to the Philippine Olympic team, reports the Manila Bulletin.

Another top contender to the team is Angelo Que who is ranked 53.

But Tabuena and Que have yet to make an official statement if they will go to Brazil should they be picked to represent the Philippines in the Rio Olympics.
So far, at least three golf major players have withdrawn to compete in Rio due to concerns over the Zika virus.

Manila Bulletin reported the latest to withdraw was world No. 1 Jason Day of Australia who announced his decision yesterday. Also not competing, among others, are Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott.
