75 endangered Dubai turtles returned to the sea

Children from the Dubai British School has returned 75 turtles to the sea yesterday after the animals were rescued and rehabilitated at Jumeirah’s Al Naseem lagoon.

The project of returning rescued turtles has helped return 1,175 critically endangered hawksbill turtles to the sea since it started in 2004.

The latest turtle that was rescued was named Bernacle, to whom the students placed a satellite tag so they can track its further recovery.

Sea turtles, especially juvenile hawksbills, are cold blooded, which means they depend on their environment for heat. They usually become lethargic and sick during winter months.

All turtles were rescued from the shores of the UAE by citizens and taken care of through the project.

Sickly turtles can be reported to Dubai Turtle Rehab Project on 043017198.
