Free skills training for OFW-returnees

A skills training sponsored by the government is set to be launched by the end of May, local reports said on Tuesday.

The so-called “Emergency Skills Training Program” willbe under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). It will openn on May 31.

“Ila-launch natin itong emergency skills training program dahil maraming taong nangangailangan ng skills agad-agad. Kaya binuksan natin lahat ng skills training centers ng TESDA sa buong bansa,” TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong was quoted as saying.

“Napakarami ng OFW na umuwi sa ating bansa na kailangan nila ‘yung skills training kung gusto nilang bumalik sa ibang bansa. Kasi noong pumunta sila roon, ‘yung skills nila ay hindi tugma sa pangangailangan ng kanilang mga employers,” he added.

According to GMA News, online application for the program will be made available.

Quoting Ignacio, the report said the applicants should be of voting age and should have finished secondary education.

The program will also be made available to former drug dependents and other disadvantaged groups, ABS-CBN also reported.

Applicants are “required to submit 2 pieces 1×1 picture with white background, and an accomplished application form to the 4 TESDA training centers in Taguig,” the report said.
