UAE warns public against rumors on unsafe food in supermarkets

The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has issued another statement against rumors on social media about some alleged unsafe food sold in the markets.

“The UAE strictly follows the procedures to ensure that all food products imported to the country are safe and meet the required specifications and standards,” Thamer Rashid Al Qasimi said in a statement.

He added that, “There is no way for any bad or unsafe food to enter the UAE.”

Stressing ADFCA keenness on monitoring all food products entering the markets, Al Qasimi said the authorities continue their regular inspections to ensure safety of the residents.

He also emphasized that the UAE takes online rumors or gossips seriously as they could disrupt public order and hurt businesses and the economy.

“Such rumors raise a lot of panic and concern among consumers. People should not believe in such false warnings on social media as they are from unknown sources and are only intended to mislead the public,” he said.

As a warning, Al Qasimi advised the public to cross-check the authenticity of news from the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

“Food safety warnings are issued by authorities only and not by individuals,” the official noted.
