Three nabbed after blackmailing UAE residents regarding ‘wanted’ lists

The UAE’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) reported that three individuals had been arrested for threatening residents to pay money to avoid being added to ‘wanted’ lists.

MOI, in a press statement, revealed that the primary suspects include an Emirati government official, along with another Emirati and an Indian. Authorities further that the three schemed to force residents to pay money, stating that if their names were added to the wanted list, they would be unable to travel, work or obtain residence visas for themselves and their family members.

His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior affirmed the country’s keenness on the principle of transparency and job integrity in line with the vision of the UAE’s leadership and its directives in implementing justice, law, accountability and fighting corruption, stressing that everyone is equal before the law.

“A Ministry of Interior employee has been arrested on charges of corruption. There is no place for corruption in our institutions that are based on the principles of serving the country and society with sincerity and honesty. There is no place for the corrupt among us. All legal measures will be taken against the arrested employee,” said His Highness on Twitter.

The MOI furthered that the acts and behaviour shown by these corrupt individuals are reprehensible in an environment that rejects corruption in all its forms.

All three individuals had been referred to the authorities.
