Filipinos continue to provide aid for fellow Filipinos in the country as proven with the ongoing efforts of the Kalayaan 2020 committee’s ‘Pagdulog 2020’ initiative that has provided for over 1,945 individuals to date.
Statistics point out that majority of their recipients were Filipinos who were still employed but were on a no work no pay basis, totalling 1,323 individuals or 68.02%. This is trailed by those who are currently on a visit or tourist visa with 276 aid recipients or 14.19%.
Other recipients include 168 terminated employees (8.64%), 128 who were employed, but forced leave without pay (6.58%), 37 undocumented individuals (1.90%), and 13 employed individuals who have no work but were provided with basic salary only (0.67%).
“Ang pag dulog ay pag tugon ng tulong sa mga nangangailangan. Sa panahon ng krisis na ito sa Pandemic na COVID-19, ipinaramdam natin sa ating mga Kababayan at maging sa ibang lahi na – SAMA SAMA tayo sa pag laban sa pagsubok na ito,” said the group from their Facebook post.
The group extended their words of gratitude to Philippine Consul General for Dubai and the Northern Emirates H.E. Paul Raymund Cortes, and his spouse Dr. Yasmin Balajadia-Cortes for their guidance in the initiative, as well as to Emirates NBD for the private institution’s support for the community during these times.
They also thanked their volunteers as well as their partner supermarkets where the Filipinos got their grocery items across Dubai and the Northern Emirates including Lulu Hypermarket, Westzone, Philippine Supermarket and Al Maya Supermarket.
