30 people in UAE contract COVID-19 after holding family gathering

A total of 30 individuals from two families in the UAE contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after holding a family gathering, a government spokesperson confirmed Wednesday night.
Among those infected is a two-month old baby and several elderly people.
In a virtual press briefing, Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi said this sets an example of how. social distancing and avoiding gatherings can save people from the treats of the virus.
“Our commitment should be in the form of actions rather than words. We should protect our loved ones, our fathers, mothers, and senior citizens, who are more vulnerable to infection than others,” Al Shamsi said.
She also explained that the importance of the strict measure being implemented by the UAE government.
As gradual re-opening of commercial centers start, children aged 12 and people over the age of 60 are not allowed to enter shopping centers, supermarkets, and other stores outside malls.
The spokesperson reiterated that people should stay at home unless it is necessary to go out, avoid gatherings with over five people, maintain physical distancing of not less than two meters, and wear face masks at all times.
Public commitment to this measure, she stressed, is a national duty to help the county stifle the virus transmission.
As of this posting, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the UAE stands at 15,738, with 3,359 recoveries and 157 deaths.
