PH Gov't considering WHO's warning of 'deadly resurgence' on plans to lift COVID-19 lockdown

The Philippines’ Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) stated that they will discuss the warning from the World Health Organization (WHO) on the possible ‘deadly resurgence’ of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as the country’s task force mulls the upcoming lapse of the Luzon lockdown by April 30.
Cabinet Secretary and IATF-EID spokesperson Karlo Nograles, in a virtual presser, shared that WHO’s statement will be discussed in length by the task force.
“Siguro narinig niyo na rin yung sinabi ng WHO, yung warning nila na countries will have to be careful na hindi ka basta-basta pwedeng mag-lift. Iyan po ang masinsinang pag-uusapan namin sa IATF (The IATF will carefully discuss about) what happens after April 30,” said Nograles as per reports from Philippine News Agency.

Nograles furthered that the government is set to implement stricter measures and rules to avoid the resurgence on the number of cases of COVID-19 in the country.
“Ngayon po, asahan natin na within the next two weeks, mas ma-control pa natin ang sitwasyon, mas ma-identify pa natin ang mga parameter, mas makikita pa natin ang datos,” said Nograles.
To date, the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine is still set to lapse this April 30 as Nograles dismissed rumours that it will be extended.

“Kung may nagpapakalat man nito, hindi po namin pinagu-usapan ‘yung extension ng lockdown after April 30. Hindi po iyan totoo na nakapag-desisyon na rin ang IATF na i-extend natin o kung anu-ano man diyan,” adds Nograles said.
As of press time, the Philippines has 4,648 reported cases, with 297 casualties, and 197 patients who have fully recovered from the disease.
