More than 500 Filipino seafarers arrive from Europe yesterday on the first week of arrivals from the coronavirus-hit cruise ship industry.
This brings the number of Filipino seafarers who arrived in Manila to 4,042, after all cruise ships halted operations due to the spread of the pandemic.
A total of 307 seafarers from MSC Splendida and MSC Fantasia boarded a special flight that arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport around 1pm yesterday.
The 185 seafarers from MSC Splendida came from Genoa, Italy. The 122 seafarers from MSC Fantasia, meanwhile, came from the port in Lisbon, Portugal
Their manning agency, Philippine Transmarine Carriers Inc., together with DFA, Philippine Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal, Overseas Welfare Administration, and the Department of Health, mounted the repatriation flight.
Meanwhile, 201 Filipino seafarers from MV Carnival Victory in Spain arrived at NAIA around 7am yesterday .
