Spain has overtook Italy in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
As of Friday, the country recorded a total of 117,710 confirmed cases–now next to the US in terms of the number of COVID-19 cases.
Spain’s total death toll now stands at 10,935, next to Italy’s 13,915 fatalities.
This is also the first time that the number of virus related deaths fell to 932 from 950.
“The increase in the number of cases today is 7%, which confirms the reduction trend we’ve been observing,” Maria Jose Sierra, the deputy head of health emergency in Spain.
Last week’s rate of increase in cases was about to 20%.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has imposed a total lockdown in the European country only allowing medical frontliners to go.
