UAE proposes new dates for Expo 2020

The Bureau International des Exposotions or BIE has confirmed that the UAE government already requested the postponement of World Expo 2020 in Dubai. 

“The government also requested that the expo be moved from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, and they be the new dates of Expo 2020 Dubai,” according to the BIE’s statement. 

The UAE’s formal letter was sent to Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).

Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the UAE, explained the postponement of the grand event. 

The UAE government also requested approval to continue using “Expo 2020 Dubai” as the official name of the event. 

The delay in the staging of the event was brought by the coronavirus disease or COVID-19

The decision in changing the dates for the Dubai expo could only be made by a two-thirds majority vote of BIE Member States.
