Duterte defends Robredo on COVID-19 efforts, fires PACC official

President Rodrigo Duterte has defended Vice President Leni Robredo on her coronavirus disease or COVID-19 efforts after a commissioner from the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission pushed for an investigation on Robredo.

In a late night speech on Friday, Duterte commended the efforts of Robredo on the government’s COVID-19 fight.

“Wala namang kasalanan ang Vice President. Yung NBI na mag-imbestiga diyan, sali ko kayo sa dismissal,” Duterte said.

Duterte also said that he has fired PACC Commissioner Manuelito Luna for saying that the National Bureau of Investigation should probe Robredo for undermining the Duterte administration efforts.

“Being a part of the national government, Robredo is barred from competing with the DOH (Department of Health), DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) and OCD/NDRRMC (Office of Civil Defense), or undermining their efforts, and from soliciting donations, in cash or in kind, from the taxpaying public, especially since funds have already been appropriated or set aside for relief assistance, disaster mitigation, rehabilitation, etc.,” Luna said in a statement on Thursday.

Duterte did not take the statements made by Luna lightly.

“May tao ako, si Manuelito Luna, gusto niya paimbestigahan si Leni. Kaya nang marinig ko, sabi ko, fire him. Wala naman kasalanan ang Vice President. Nag ano nga na tumulong,” Duterte said.
