Four Filipinos dead due to COVID-19 in New York, New Jersey

The Philippine Consulate General in New York on Thursday said that at least four Filipinos died because of the coronavirus disease or COVID-19. 
 
Consul General Claro Cristobal told GMA News that there are about 143,000 Filipinos in New York and 170,000 in New Jersey, most of them immigrants.

“Nakakatanggap na tayo ng mga balita na ilan sa mga kababayan natin ang nasawi sa sakit na ito at ilang mga kababayan natin ang nasa ospital ngayon at inilalaban ang kanilang buhay,” Cristobal said,
 
Cristobal explained that the two states have the most number of Filipino immigrants in the northern part of the United States.

New York is the first state to declare a quarantine order and became the epicenter of the virus in the US.
 
“Ang mga kababayan natin, mainam, napakaganda, ay sumusunod tayo sa mga pinag-uutos ng mga awtoridad,” Cristobal said.
