Abu Dhabi’s Economic Dept urges residents: ‘Be our eyes in the market’

More than 1,200 establishments in Abu Dhabi were inspected by UAE authorities in a massive crackdown against businesses that sell overpriced essential goods.
Seven outlets were slapped with hefty fines while 29 others were notified for not obeying to prices and regulations set, according to the officials of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED).
Around 354 price inspections were conducted by officials from the ADDED’s Commercial Protection Department. In addition, some 870 inspections were carried out by ADDED with the Department of Municipalities and Transport and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, across commercial facilities in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, Khaleej Times reported.
The monitoring and inspection activities covered 607 restaurants, 22 sales outlets, 20 shopping centers, along with 152 mobile vehicles and 69 pharmacies.
ADDED Undersecretary Rashed Abdul Karim Al Balooshi, emphasized, “Our efforts are dedicated to ensure consumer protection, as well as to promote the national economy and its economic gains amid the current challenges.”
“Be our eyes in the market. Connect with us to register complaints, inquiries, violations or rise in prices,” he said.
