Rent postponed for 6 months at Dubai free zones

Dubai has announced that it will postpone the rent of companies operating in free zones for six months as part of its assistance against coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Khaleej Times reported.

Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Free Zones Council vows to help companies in free zone areas amid the threat of the pandemic through its relief package—which includes rent postponement, easy installment payments, insurance refunds, fine cancelations, security deposits and guarantees refunds, and temporary contracts allowing free movement of labor.

“Dubai free zones are working to support the economic system continuously and at all times to enhances the competitiveness of Dubai and to ensure business continuity for companies in all sectors, especially small and medium companies,” Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Free Zones Council, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Emirates airline and Chief Executive of the Emirates Group was quoted by Khaleej Times as saying.

This economic stimulus package was launched in coordination with the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority, Jebel Ali Free Zone, the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Dubai International Financial Centre, the Dubai Development Authority, Dubai South, Meydan City Corporation and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre.

The Council said the initiatives were offered to help individuals and companies in the said areas reduce their financial burdens as well as easily recover from the economic effect of the pandemic.

In addition, Dubai International Financial Centre said it has also proposed five initiatives for free zone companies—including waiving annual license fees for new companies during the next three months, a 10% discount on renewal fees for existing licenses during the same period, postponement of payment plans for all DIFC-owned commercial properties s for six months, and deduction of ownership transfer fees from 5 to 4% (for sale done within the authorized three-month period).
