Cuba sends medical team in Italy to fight COVID-19 pandemic

Cuba on Sunday dispatched an army of white robes to Italy to help the country in its fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Cuban government responded to request of Italy’s worst affected region Lombardy and sent a 52-man team of doctors and nurses.
This is the first time that Caribbean nation sent an emergency contingent to Italy, one of the richest countries in the world, Reuters reported.

Cuba has sent a medical brigade to Venezuela, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Suriname, and Grenada to help curb the spread of the virus overseas.

“We are all afraid, but we have a revolutionary duty to fulfill, so we take out fear and put it to one side,” Leonardo Fernandez, 68, an intensive care specialist, told Reuters.

“He who says he is not afraid is a superhero, but we are not superheros, we are revolutionary doctors.”
Italy is the second worst hit country in the world next by the COVID-19 pandemic which emerged in China last December 2019.
