The Italian government has reported 475 new deaths on March 18, the highest number recorded in a single day since the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 was first recorded in China, Agence France Presse reported.
The total number of deaths in Italy has reached 2,978 or more than half of all the cases recorded outside China. The number of infections stood at 35,713.
The previous record high of 368 deaths was also recorded in Italy, on March 15.

The nation, with a population of 60 million, has now recorded 34.2 percent of all the deaths officially attributed to COVID-19 across the world.
