Egypt has put thousands of workers in the Red Sea province under quarantine following the discovery of COVID-19 cases in several tourist establishments in the area.
Amr Hanafy, governor of the Red Sea province, said workers in the region would undergo 14-day quarantine after 20 employees of eight resorts were diagnosed with COVID-19.
Hotels and other popular tourist destinations would be disinfected while the travelers will leave the province next month.
Egypt is bolstering its efforts to contain the virus, which has infected more than 200,000 people globally, The National reported.
The government has rolled out programs to minimize the impact of the pandemic to the economy including tax reduction, slashing the interest rates by 300 basis, lowering power charges to industries and assuring a Dhs232 million fund to aid exporters.
The government shut schools for two weeks, halted sporting events, and banned large gatherings.
Cinemas and theatres were closed while few cafes and restaurants continued to operate, albeit offering take-outs.
The Ministry of Health said Wednesday that COVID-19 cases in Egypt have climbed to 210 with six fatalities.
