Germany to impose border shutdown amid COVID-19 pandemic

Germany announced that it will close its borders to curb the spread of coronavirus disease or COVID-19.
German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer announced that borders will be shut beginning at 8:00 (local time) on Monday, BBC reported.

The EU-member country, which belongs to the borderless Schengen area, has recorded nine fatalities and 4,585 cases of coronavirus.
The country will follow suit to its neighbors Poland, Czech Republic and Denmark that have imposed stringent measures such as border closures and travel restrictions.

Meanwhile, goods will continue to flow between the countries and commuters may still cross the borders, a government source told BBC.
The measure will also address the panic-buying in border regions by foreigners.
