Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque temporarily closes as preventive measure against COVID-19 spread

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) announced that the famous Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque will be closed for worshippers and visitors from Sunday.
This is part of the government’s move to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

The mosque will be temporarily closed for prayers and visits from March 15, 2020, to carry out the disinfection operation of the mosque and its facilities. This is to ensure the well-being and safety of Emiratis, residents and visitors.
“This comes within the preventive efforts and measures taken by public institutions across the UAE to counter coronavirus,” the SZGMC said on its social media post.

The move is part of UAE’s intensified campaign against the virus. Schools, public parks, public swimming pools were closed and cancelling of all major events across the country to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism on Friday announced that nightclubs and tourist restaurants in Abu Dhabi will be closed until end of March.
