Iran releases 70K prisoners to prevent coronavirus spread

Iran has decided to temporarily release of about 70,000 prisoners in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus in jails.
The head of the judiciary confirmed the decision as new infections and dozens more deaths were recorded across the country.

Iran’s health ministry has reported 595 new infections and 43 new deaths within the past 24 hours.
There are now 7,161 confirmed cases in Iran and 237 deaths.
Judiciary chief Ebrahim Raisi said that the release of prisoners is one of the preventive measures to fight the coronavirus.

It’s still unclear when the prisoners would return to their jail.
The health ministry told Iranians to stay home and imposed restrictions on travel between provinces.
