Filipino who tested positive for COVID-19 could be first local transmission case

The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that two more confirmed cases of coronavirus disease were recorded in the country.
This makes the total number of confirmed cases to 5.
The fifth case, a 62-year old Filipino, however, has no travel history outside the country.
He sought consultation on March 1. Health Secretary Francisco Duque said Friday that the man regularly attends a Muslim prayer hall in San Juan City.
Contact tracing is now underway.
Duque said the DOH is not discounting the possibility that the fifth case could be the first case of local transmission in the country, but it has yet to be established.
“The absence of travel is a clear indication that this is a local case. But it is still premature to say that there is local transmission, we need to be evidence-based,” Duque said.
